Lockdown has created some unexpected positives. In January I commented on the temporary arrangements that permitted outdoor wedding ceremonies to take place (Saying "I do" to an outdoor wedding). The government's recent consultation confirmed overwhelming public support for making the outdoor choice a permanent option so happily it seems that it will be here to stay. You could now choose to get married in your garden, on the beach, at the top of a mountain or at another location that is meaningful to the couple and their families.
Couples will be better able to personalise their wedding ceremony and the consequent boost to the wedding industry that suffered so much during the pandemic will surely also be welcome.
The government has been consulting generally and is looking to streamline inconsistencies in the disparate and archaic rules relating to wedding ceremonies. Those rules have limited how and where ceremonies should be conducted, as well as the language and wording that had to be used. There will be more changes to come in these areas.
The only issue now is the British weather!
