Honesty is the Best Policy

A salutary lesson for anyone trying to deceive the family court. In this case the barrister involved was disbarred for his deceit, so lost his career as well as his marriage as a consequence of his dishonesty. The court has wide powers to punish dishonesty in the context of a divorce.  Most often dishonesty is punished with a costs order if someone is untruthful about their finances, or deliberately uncooperative. However ultimately the court can fine or imprison if necessary.

The High Court has rejected an appeal from a former barrister who was disbarred for knowingly serving his own divorce papers to the wrong address.
