Jeff Bazos's aerospace company Blue Origin has been in the news in recent weeks for its space tourism. Reusable rocket engines have taken the people (including Captain James T Kirk (William Shatner)) on a 66 mile journey into the sky in a space ride that lasted about 10 minutes.
Blue Origin, which says its engines are powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight, has now announced its intention to launch a commercial space station in the latter half of this decade. Blue Origin will partner with Sierra Space and Boeing in this endeavor. Described as a "mixed-use business park" in space it could house up to 10 people over a 32,000 sq ft station and, according to promotional material, will be an ideal location for conducting cutting edge research or even as a "space hotel".
To be called "Orbital Reef" the modules for the structure will be launched into space by Blue Origin's reusable New Glenn rocket. It will be interesting to see how this venture develops.
