Divorce without the drama - welcome to Good Divorce Week

This week marks Good Divorce Week 2025, an initiative led by Resolution, the national body of family lawyers committed to constructive resolutions. As proud Resolution members, we follow its Code of Practice - listening to you, explaining options clearly, and guiding you to focus on the future and the things that matter most.

A “good divorce” goes beyond the legal process of separation. It’s about minimising conflict, reducing legal costs, and preserving relationships, especially where children are involved. It means balancing financial and emotional needs and finding fair solutions that work for everyone.

What does a good divorce look like? It starts with open communication and a commitment to cooperation. Families who achieve a good divorce take practical steps such as exploring non-court options early, keeping children’s needs at the heart of every decision, and planning for the future rather than focusing solely on the present. These steps help reduce stress, manage costs, and maintain dignity throughout the process.

At Stevens & Bolton, we believe divorce does not have to mean confrontation. We are committed to resolving family matters outside of court wherever possible and in a constructive, non-confrontational way.

In fact, the number of our cases reaching court is at an all-time low thanks to our collaborative approach. Family courts are under immense pressure, and lengthy litigation adds stress and expense. That’s why we champion non-court dispute resolution options such as mediation (including solicitor-supported mediation), collaborative law, arbitration, private hearings, and early neutral evaluations.

We are also proud to offer our One Solicitor, One Couple method in suitable cases - helping couples resolve matters constructively, quickly, and with dignity.

If you’d like to explore how a “good divorce” could work for you and the options available for resolving financial or child-related matters, please get in touch with our family team.
