A spike in divorce applications

A week after its introduction, no fault divorce has led to a predicted increase in applications. Many will be from couples who have deliberately waited to be able to seek a divorce without apportioning blame.

Our experience shows that the portal has had a few teething issues, particularly with joint applications where the second spouse has had difficulty seeing the application and confirming that they wish to co-apply.  Disappointingly, an application made at 10am on the first day the system went live, has stalled due to this. Hopefully this, and other early snags will be swiftly resolved to smooth the way for this much awaited change.
