Are you ready for MEES?

New minimum energy efficiency standards (MEES), currently before parliament, will require buildings to have a minimum rating of C by 2027 and B by 2030. New and renewal leases are being granted now with terms that will likely stretch over these upcoming MEES deadlines.

Forward planning for landlords is important to ensure compliance with the new MEES regulations. Landlords should start to review their portfolios to identify any "at risk" properties to ensure that the value of their properties is retained and minimise the risk of any enforcement action.

By 2025, every commercial building in the UK will require an energy performance certificate, which rates its energy efficiency from grade A to G.
