Solomon's baby interpreted through art

The art collection of a US property mogul and his ex wife has raised over £500m after its sale was forced by a judge because the couple could not agree on the value of the collection.

A sad but not unusual example of how a refusal to compromise can lead to an outcome that is completely different to the one that you hoped to achieve through intransigence.

Whilst not your every day divorce, the case demonstrates that even for the rich and powerful, the court can and will take decisions out of your hands to achieve a final outcome.

The couple were granted a divorce last year after 59 years together. The pair could not come to an agreement on the value of the artworks and so a judge appointed an administrator to oversee the sale of the items.
