'Appy Ever After?

Research suggesting that long lasting love may not be found through dating apps has been published. What does this really tell us I wonder?

Historically couples have sometimes met and married in very short time periods (e.g. during wartime) and they probably knew less information about each other than a dating app profile provides.  Many such marriages endured for decades.

Perhaps the results of this survey are more of a reflection on the age and outlook of those using dating apps, who may not buy into the belief that marriage is literally 'til death to us part' as some older generations have done.

Does that make marriage wrong if people don't have that belief?

Personally (and without wanting to sound self-serving given the day job), I would say 'no'.  Marriage can provide greater financial security for those having children and that is a good reason for considering it. As with all things, it is best to know and understand what you are signing up for when you do marry.  Consider marriage preparation classes to help you with that understanding, and perhaps consider a pre nuptial agreement if you want to regulate some financial aspects of your marriage. Previous surveys have reported that divorces are less prevalent where couples have signed a pre nup, and/or have attended preparatory classes.
