Is the UK's 'hostile' immigration policy out of step with tackling modern slavery?

This interesting comment piece in the Guardian makes the point that the Government's policy on immigration appears increasingly out of step with its commitment to tackle modern slavery.

A report published recently by the Council of Europe's expert group on human trafficking (Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings - GRETA) has urged the UK to do more to tackle the issue. The report specifically urges the UK to implement its immigration policies in a manner that is compatible with its commitments under the anti-trafficking convention - most particularly the requirement to identify victims of trafficking and providing assistance to them.

This week a report has highlighted how Brexit and immigration policy could result in more forced labour exploitation. It’s what we in the anti-slavery movement have been saying to ministers for some time. If only they would listen.
